What was once used as a school hall until 1945 has since been transformed into a cosy retreat, just for two, set in the heart of Galloway.
The owners reside next door so are on hand for any queries but are very happy to leave guests alone to enjoy themselves.
The accommodation comprises a spacious living area which opens onto a small sunny conservatory. There’s an attractive double bedroom, a large kitchen with farmhouse table, and a
shower/bathroom. There is a small private lawned garden with seating and views to the Galloway Hills.
This is a superb location for fishing (3 lochs within 2 miles), walkers and cyclists. Red squirrels; pine martens, deer, red kites and hen harriers can all be seen in the area.
The Galloway Forest Park is only 12 miles away and is the largest Forest park in the UK with hundreds of miles to walk or cycle. The area is also amazing for star gazing with
negligible light pollution.
The Schoolhouse is only 10 miles from the market town of Newton Stewart where there are many dog-friendly cafes, swimming pool, cinema and a gin distillery. The town also has
4 supermarkets, including Aldi and Sainsburys.
The cottage is 35 miles from the artists’ town of Kirkcudbright; 40 miles from the food town of Castle Douglas and just 12 miles from Scotland’s booktown at Wigtown. It is
also very easy to take a ferry trip to Northern Ireland from Cairnryan, 25 miles away.
Scotland’s most southerly whisky distillery is at Bladnoch near Wigtown where tours are available. There is also a shop and small cafe on site.
There is a selection of excellent sandy beaches for walking the dogs, all easily accessible.
